RGCB condoles passing away of scientist Prof. MRS Rao

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 14: The scientific community at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) has expressed profound grief at the passing away of eminent scientist Prof MRS Rao, who made outstanding contributions in the domain of biochemistry.

A former president of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Prof. Rao passed away at his Tatanagar residence in Bengaluru. He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) of RGCB.

“At the passing away of Prof Rao, India has lost a leading scientist and mentor of leading scientific and research institutions, including RGCB,” said Prof Chandrabhas Narayana, Director, RGCB, in a condolence message here.

A Padma Shri awardee, Prof. Manchanahalli Rangaswamy Satyanarayana Rao was known for his pioneering research in biochemistry and molecular biology, besides guiding institutions, Prof Narayana said.

“The scientific community and staff members at the RGCB gratefully recall his support and mentorship of the institution and share the grief of the family members of Prof. Rao”, Prof Narayana added.
