Genrobotics launches G-Gaiter in Thanal Brain and Spine Medcity Centre in Kannur

Trivandrum / May 9, 2023

Thiruvananthapuram, May 09: Kerala-based Genrobotic Innovations, which developed world’s first robotic scavenger, has deployed its advanced robotic gait trainer G-Gaiter that helps patients recover rapidly from paraplegic disabilities at Thanal Brain and Spine Medcity Centre, Kannur.

Para-shooting champion Shri Sidhartha Babu inaugurated G-Gaiter at the facility at a function in the presence of Thanal Group Chairman Dr Idrees and Genrobotics Medical and Mobility Regional Director Shri Afsal Muttikkal.

Significantly, G-Gaiter’s induction in more specialized healthcare institutions is taking place at a time when the number of stroke cases being reported in Kerala is higher compared to other Indian states.

Shri Afsal said the functionality of the robot will enable medical professionals to creatively design therapy based on each patient’s needs by saving time and effort.

Dr Idrees said though Thanal Medcity has been following traditional methods of physiotherapy, the adoption of robotics will improve the quality of rehabilitation and ensure effective result in the physical health of patients.

He said G-Gaiter will be a novel experience in the neuro-rehabilitation treatment as the technology provides the hi-end quality service.

G-Gaiter will assist patients with paraplegic conditions caused by stroke, traumatic spinal cord injury and cerebral palsy to increase their mobility, consistency, and quality of gait pattern.

Dr Muneer, Consultant Physiatrist, said the biggest advantage of G-Gaiter is that it can provide personalised care, which will lead to significant improvement in the condition of the person concerned, and this is often not possible in the traditional methods.

Thanal has been helping for years patients paralysed after accidents or due to neurological disorders to regain their physical mobility.  The institution offers regular and intensive physiotherapy to bed-ridden patients, mostly from underprivileged background.

G-Gaiter’s AI (Artificial Intelligence)-powered natural human gait pattern and top-notch rehabilitation functions aim to increase mobility as well as the consistency and quality of gait patterns.

G-Gaiter will help patients with paraplegic disorders achieve their goal of re-walking flawlessly. This would be one of the best alternatives to meet the shortcomings of the traditional gait training method. The robotics treatment using G-Gaiter will be made available in General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram and Aster Group hospitals soon.

The technology-driven G-Gaiter will also be playing a greater role as Kerala is being promoted as a health tourism destination with special attention to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR).

Taking off as a startup, Genrobotics has displayed innovation in solving different social issues and emerged as one of the most impactful companies through various robotic solutions.

It made a big socio-technological impact by developing the world’s first robotic manhole cleaner ‘Bandicoot’, aimed at phasing out manual scavenging.
