Kerala bringing law to ensure unadulterated cattle feed: Minister Chinchurani

Thrissur, Feb 11: Kerala government is bringing in a legislation that guarantees completely unadulterated feed for the cattle in the state, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Smt J. Chinchurani said today.
“We are drafting a law that will ensure cattle feed which will be free of any kind of pollutants or contaminants," she said, chairing the opening ceremony of a cultural evening inaugurated by star actor Jayaram, who is brand ambassador of public-sector Kerala Feeds Limited (KFL).
The ‘Kala Sandhya’ celebrations this evening were part of the February 10-15 ‘Padavu 2023’ gathering of dairy farmers from across the state. The six-day event, which the Dairy Development Ministry is organising at the Veterinary College in Mannuthy, features workshops, seminars, award ceremonies and cultural evenings, among others. The cultural session, which featured a Jayaram-led percussion ensemble titled ‘Vadya Vismayam’ besides other stage programmes, was organized by KFL headquartered in Kallettumkara near Irinjalakuda of this district.
Minister Smt Chinchurani said Kerala was going ahead with its plans of achieving self-sufficiency in milk production. “More such programmes are in the offing. Once we are through with this series, we would have moved closer to our target,” she pointed out at the ceremony, seven km east of the city.
Jayaram, in his speech, hailed the government’s efforts in empowering the state’s dairy farmers. “The Minister has a vision and we’re sure of the result,” added the Padma Shri-winning actor-percussionist, who subsequently led an hour-long ‘Thala Vismayam’ ensemble by anchoring it with the chenda drum.
Shri K. Sreekumar, chairman of KFL, recalled in his welcome address how 45 years of cooperative movement strengthened Kerala’s dairy sector. KFL Managing Director Dr B. Sreekumar proposed thanks.
Present on the occasion were Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Dean Shri P. Sudheer Babu, Shri V.S. Thilakan, Dairy Cooperative Society Presidents Shri T.K. Varghese (Pariyaram), Shri N.R. Radhakrishnan (Puthuruthy), Shri P.S. Subrahmanyan (Engandiyoor) and Shri Shamsudheen (Thrikkur), besides Secretaries Smt Ani (Valakkavu) and Satheeshkumar T.N. (Chittilappally).
The KFL-organised ‘Kala Sandhya’ concluded with a dance fusion show titled ‘Ente Keralam’, followed by KoormaPuranam Kathakali. The state-owned company has a stall at ‘Padavu 2023’, showcasing its range of products and services.
The 1995-founded KFL manufacturers products for various breeds of cows with the aim of keeping them in good health as well as better productivity and quality of milk.
