Kollam / January 21, 2023

Kollam, Jan. 21: Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) will hold an investment meet in Kollam on January 28 to brief High Networth Individuals (HNIs) on the huge investment potential that startups in Kerala’s robust ecosystem offer for them.

The event, ‘Ignite Kollam’, has been planned as a prelude to the 8th edition of Angel Investors Summit, ‘Seeding Kerala 23,’aiming at attracting investment in viable startups in the state.

The meet will offer a clear idea to HNIs interested in investing in startups on the process of safely parking their funds in promising enterprises including the procedures involved. They will also be briefed on other modes of startup investment such as the state government approved Fund-of-Funds scheme or becoming part of angel investment networks.

Through the Fund-of-Funds scheme, KSUM partners with SEBI accredited Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) to promote investments in startups from Kerala.

Kerala has quite a lot of HNIs capable of investing in startups and thereby giving an added momentum to the ecosystem in the state, KSUM CEO Shri Anoop Ambika said. Events like Ignite are aimed at imparting a further traction to the initiatives in this direction, he added.

In two years, investment of about Rs 100 crore had been made in 40 startups through the Fund-of-Funds scheme. The investors who made use of the scheme were able to receive handsome returns. Kerala’s startup ecosystem continues to offer huge investment scope, and this meet will facilitate the prospective investors on making proper use of the opportunities.

The meet will unveil before the HNIs the strengths of Kerala’s startup ecosystem and profiles of enterprises that promise them opportunities to park funds safely. It will bring together more than 40 startup founders, over 30 HNIs, and stakeholders, on a single platform.

Now into its third edition, Ignite, to be held at The Quilon Beach Orchid Hotel, will enable the participants to formulate action-plans.

The event will enable startup founders to explore better investment opportunities for their enterprises besides creating angel investor networks, academic research, and technological collaborations.

The meet will focus on four major areas - Investor-Startup Connects, Knowledge sharing sessions for HNIs and Startups, and a roundtable conference on the Kollam Startup ecosystem by stakeholders and key players. There will be stakeholders meet, and networking sessions as well.

It will also cover the dos and don’ts of investing in startups, besides holding Master Classes for HNIs on how to invest in startups.

There will be an Investor Café which will enable one-to-one investor-startup pitching. Also, there will be a session named Art of Storytelling wherein the funded startup founders will share their experiences with the fledgling firms looking for funds to scale up.

The partners of the event are Quilon Managements Association, Kerala Angel Network, Kerala State Institute of Design, Malabar Angel Network, Junior Chamber International, District Industries Centre, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centres in Engineering Colleges, Rotary Club, Technopark Kollam, Amrita Vishwavidhyapeeth, TKM Group of Institutions, MES Group of Institutions, and Tie Kerala.

KSUM, the nodal agency of the Kerala Government for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state, has been organising ignite drives in all districts to attract investors for the startups under KSUM.
