Alappuzha, Feb 4: Exports should not be the sole focus of coir marketing; instead Kerala should aim at popularising the products in the state where people are lifestyle-savvy, Kerala State Coir Corporation Chairman (KSCC) Shri Rajendra Prasad said today.
“We should aim the marketing towards ‘one coir product in every household’,” he told a national seminar at the Coir Kerala 2016 event. “The Malayali is very aware of the value of using eco-friendly, sustainable products. So our aim should be to reach coir goods to vendors across the state.”
Shri Prasad, while speaking at the session on ‘Coir industry – Operational issues’, said the domestic and regional markets have been ignored for long to the peril of the coir industry. Kerala has 95 lakh households, and in the face of stiff competition, “we should harness this market, and position the product suggesting to the consumer the advantages of picking coir products”.
Coir Development Director Shri K N Satheesh spoke about adding appeal for the consumer through seasonal design and value-added features.
