Minister Shri Shibu Baby John inaugurates Rs 117-lakh school block at Neendakara

Part of Rs 20 crore development projects completed by KSCADC in state


Kollam, Jan 25: Minister for Labour and Skills Shri Shibu Baby John inaugurated a Rs-117 lakh new government school block at Neendakara in this district, as part of state-wide 150-crore development projects undertaken under a NABARD scheme and implemented by the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC).

Projects worth Rs 20 crore –including of Rs 4.67 crore in Kollam district–have been completed.

The new school block for the Government Arayaseva Higher Secondary School at Puthenthura in Neendakara comes under the 2013-14 NABARD Village Development Programme which aims to increase access to drinking water, infrastructure, health and education.

The government was sanctioned Rs 123 crore under the programme for developing fishing villages and building fish landing centres, a net mending yard, fishing stations, fish landing centres, drainage facilities and high mast lights, among other things.

The three-storey 577-sq-m school block in is construction with modern facilities, and has 10 rooms—eight classrooms and two lab rooms.

KSCADC Chief Engineer Shri M Rajeev presented the report, in the function presided over by Shri N K Premachandran MP, Neendakara Gramapanchayat President Smt S Maya, Kollam District Panchayat President Smt K Jagadamma Teacher, Chavara Block Panchayat President Smt Thangamani Pillai, district Panchayat member Smt S Shobha, Block Panchayat member Shri N Mohanlal, KSCADC General Manager In-chrge Shri R Suresh Kumar and Chief Engineer Sarath Lal were present at the event.

There are development projects worth Rs 32.38 crore at various stages of implementation in Kollam district, including five educational infrastructure projects for Rs 7.12 crore; of this two have been completed. In all, there are 65 educational projects worth Rs 70.70 crore underway.

Other completed projects include a women’s centre in Neendakara, a new library building in Moothakara, and electrificiation at Thangasherry, among others.
