Idukki, Jan 17: Spices Board will organize a two-day National Seminar on Spices in Kumily under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) of the Ministry of Agriculture for spice growers in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The seminar, to be held at Hotel S N International, Kumily on January 20 and 21 will be attended by progressive spice farmers from the five states.
Adv. Joice George MP will inaugurate the seminar. Shri Roshy Augustine MLA, Smt E S Bijimol MLA, Shri K K Jayachandran MLA and Shri S Rajendran MLA, will be the Guests of Honour at the programme.
The objective of the seminar is to familiarize farmers with the latest technologies for production/post harvest improvement of spices, to identify the gaps in cultivation, processing and marketing of spices and to draw a road map for development of spice production in the Southern region of the country.
The technical sessions will be led by experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Indian Institute of Spices Research, Central Food Technological Research Institute, Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Kerala Agriculture University, Dr. Y S R Horticulture University, University of Agriculture and Horticulture Sciences, NABARD, Kerala State Warehousing Corporation, State Horticulture / Agriculture Departments and spice exporters.
Following the inaugural ceremony, Spices Board will distribute the ‘Small Cardamom Productivity Awards’ for the year 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15. The award is instituted by Spices Board to recognize growers who achieved a high level of productivity in small cardamom.
Spices Board will also distribute enrollment certificates to the Spices Producers Societies (SPS) on the sidelines of the event. An exhibition of spices and spice products will also be organized at the venue.
