Biennale Music: Kishore, Rafi, Mukesh rev up hospital air

Kochi, Nov 4: The precincts of Ernakulam Government General Hospital pulsated with foot-tapping songs of Bollywood legends Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi and Mukesh as noted Malayalam singer Paulson Muvattupuzha not only recreated their old music but also imitated their way of singing.

During the hour-long popular concert at the 91st episode of ‘Arts and Medicine’, organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation, Paulsonmesmerised the audience with the popular old numbers of Bollywood.

The weekly programme is arranged by the KBF in association with Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra.

Though the show started with a prayer song ‘Lokam Muzhuvan Sukham Pagaranaay’, the singer, who wore a suit, struck the chord with the audience by crooning Hindi song ‘Hame Tumse Pyaar Kitna’ from Hindi film ‘Kudrat’ (1981), which was sung by his favourite singer Kishore Kumar.

Paulson also belted out Kishore Kumar’s ‘Pal Pal Dil ke Paas’ from the 1973 movie ‘Blackmail’ and ‘Mera Jeevan Kora Kaagaz’ from the 1974 film ‘Kora Kaagaz’. His love for Kishore’s songs prompted people to call him ‘Kishore Kumar’.

Mohammed Rafi’s ‘Badi Door Se Aayen hain’ (Samjhauta, 1973) and Mukesh’s ‘Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye’ (Anand, 1971) were also rendered with great passion during the programme.

The singer then peppered the show with a few Malayalam chartbusters like ‘Anuraga Ganam Pole ’(Udyogastha, 1967), ‘Anuragini’ (Oru Kudakeezhil, 1985), ‘Arikil Nee Undayirunengi’ (Nee Ethra Dhanya, 1987) and ‘Shyama Meghame Nin’ (Adhipan, 1989).
