Kochi, Oct 26: Noted classical vocalist and music teacher Raju A S (Raju Palluruthy) and his daughter Lakshmi Priya took the patients of Cochin Medical College for a walk down memory lane with a handful of classic melodies, some laced with a shade of devotion and others with pangs of separation.
The father-daughter duo staged a memorable performance at the hospital today as part of the 89th ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme organized by the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra.
Raju opened the concert with popular devotional song Prabhathamay, followed by Sauparnikamritha veechikal and Ohm namah shivaya. Most of the Malayalam songs which were presented at the programme were the ones that beautifully expressed the pain of separation, while still being pinned on optimism.
Songs like Neermizhippeliyil (Vachanam), Ezhu sundara rathrikal (Ashwamedham), Priyasakhi gange (Kumarasambhavam), Rajahamsame (Chamayam), Ilavannur madathile (Kadathanattu Makkam) and Shyamasundara Pushpame (Yudhakandam) received a standing applause from the audience comprising patients, bystanders, doctors and other staff.
Raju, after receiving graduation in classical music from RLV College in Tripunithura, turned to teaching. He has been part of noted music troupes and has performed at various stage shows. His daughter Lakshmi Priya, a college lecturer by profession, is a trained vocalist and has made several devotional songs albums.
