IFFK at 20: Meet-and-greet with Krzysztof Zanussi tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 24: Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA) and Revathy Kalamandir Film Academy will jointly host a master class by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi tomorrow at Priyadarshini Planetarium seminar hall.

The three-hour seminar, commencing at 2 pm, will include an interactive session with the multiple award-winning veteran director. Celebrated filmmakers Adoor Gopalakrishnan, International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) 2015 artistic director Shaji N. Karun and KSCA chairman T. Rajivnath will be among the luminaries in attendance.

Throughout a storied career spanning decades, Zanussi has served in multiple roles as screenwriter, director, producer, author and stage director. Possessed of an auteur aesthetic, his films defy easy classification into accepted styles or genres.

“My films are derived primarily from literature, and are a kind of human speech. The idea of visual cinema has always raised my doubts,” Zanussi has said. He wrote the scripts for nearly all his works, and encouraged his actors to improvise, using the technique of open dialogue to characterise them in a “not-so-obvious” way.

IFFK 2015, Kerala’s premier film festival, will run from December 4 -11.
