Kochi, Oct 7: State-owned leading technical consultancy organization KITCO Limited is partnering with Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) to establish TIST-KITCO Centre for Engineering Excellence with an aim to improve employability skills of engineering graduates.
The new initiative will offer a specially-designed skill development programme based on practical knowledge and practices to help students boost their employability skills, thus helping to bridge the industry-academia gap.
“There has been a phenomenal increase in the number of engineering graduates in the state recently. However, their level of practical knowledge and employability still remains a matter of concern,” said Dr D Vincent H Wilson, Principal, TIST.
“The TIST-KITCO Centre for Engineering Excellence has taken into account the changing employment climate as well as the needs and expectations of employers while designing its curriculum,” he added.
The centre offers a three-month course which will have vocational training, classroom sessions, project works and evaluation. It will provide separate training programmes for civil, electrical and mechanical engineering graduates.
The classes, which will commence this month, will be led by experts from both industry and academia. The centre will also help students to get placements in leading companies. The certificate issued by the centre will be useful for students seeking employment overseas.
