Nilambur gets Rs 1.51-crore modernised fish market


Malappuram, Sep 28: Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise Shri K Babu today inaugurated the modernized fish market constructed by Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) at a cost of Rs 1.51 crore at Nilambur, near here.

The market is part of the state government’s plan to set up a chain of 41 fish markets in the state to ensure hygiene and high food safety practices.

The two-storeyed market building at Nilambur houses 38 retail stalls, an auction hall, two wholesale stalls, two dry fish retail outlets and an effluent treatment plant. The market has been handed over to Nilambur Municipality.

KSCADC is implementing projects worth Rs 27.7 crore in Malappuram district. Out of this, projects amounting to Rs 4.27 crore, including four drinking water projects, electrification projects and a new IP block for hospital at Parappanangadi, have been completed.

Works on projects worth Rs 23.43 crore in the district are at various stages. These include nine drinking water projects, two electrification projects, four net mending yards, eight educational infrastructure development projects and another modernized fish market at Vandoor.

Hon’ble Minister for Electricity Shri Aryadan Muhammed presided over the function.
