Thrissur, Sep 25: In a bid to improve basic infrastructure facilities for the fishing community in the state, the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) has come up with four new projects worth Rs 3.75 crore in this district—all of which were inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Excise Shri K Babu today.
The projects comprised renovation works at Government Regional Fisheries Technical High School, Chavakad, a modernized fish market at Wadakkanchery, a block at Primary Health Centre, Poyya and a library-cum-mini community hall at Vadanappally Fishermen Colony.
The renovation works at Government Regional Fisheries Technical High School, Chavakad near Guruvayur, done at a cost of Rs 1.32 crore, will have a library block at 218 square meter, a kitchen block at 100 square meter and a staff quarters at 138 square meter. The project is part of government’s Rs 25.16-crore initiative to renovate 10 Government Fisheries Technical High School, across the state, with the help of National Fisheries Development Board.
“The state government has projects worth Rs 34.95 crore for Thrissur district in which the projects costing around Rs. 11.43 crore have already been completed. Similar projects are carried out across the state for developing the coastal villages,” said the Fisheries Minister during the inauguration of the new academic block. The projects worth Rs 21.49 crore are in progress.
The modernized fish market at Wadakkanchery, built at cost of Rs 1.03 crore, will have 22 commercial stalls with fish display slabs, proper drainage, and sink for cleaning fish, apart from a chill-room, a flake-ice unit and an effluent treatment plant.
The minister also laid the foundation stone of a library-cum-mini community hall at Vadanappally Fishermen Colony (near Triprayar) apart from inaugurating the new block at Primary Health Centre, Poyya near Kodungallur. The Fisheries Department is planning and implementing projects under the headship of KSCADC for the overall social-economic development of the state’s coastal areas.
