Soulful ‘Maappila’ songs enliven patients at Eid special Biennale Arts and Medicine

Kochi, Sep 23: Patients gleefully tapped their feet to the zesty beats of ‘Maappila’ songs as singers of the Mehboob Memorial Orchestra presented an Eid special concert as part of the 83rd edition of the Arts and Medicine programme at the Ernakulam Government General Hospital today.  


The Arts and Medicine programme is being organised every week by Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) in association with Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Ltd and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra.


Three young singers from Kochi—Nasbir, Shabir Marakkar and Sajna Sakkaria--- captivated the audience comprising patients, bystanders, doctors and other hospital staff with their scintillating performance that reminded everyone of  the charming notes of this music genre.


Shabir, a native of Fort Kochi who has a Bachelors’ Degree in classical music from Maharajas College, opened the concert with a beautiful devotional “Ellam padaithulla allahudayone” from famous album Mailanchi Pattukal.


Sajna, a student of Hindustani classical music and winner of a music reality show, chipped in with Kasthoori thaiamittu from movie Kadalpalam. Another album song Sankrita pamagari” was rendered by Nasbir, a native of Palluruthy who has participated in a number of stage shows and music programmes in leading Malayalam channels.


Songs like Kallayikkadavathu from movie Perumazhakkalam, Kanmani neeyen karam pidichal from Kuppivala and Nadapuram palliyile from Thacholi Ambu went on to enthral patients during the one-and-half-hour long programme.
