ICGE 2015 aims at finding priority areas for action in gender

Gender Park calls for paper/poster submissions to the international conference

Thiruvananthapuram, July 23: Grasping the labyrinthine misinterpretations and controversies around gender equations in today’s constantly changing socio- economic and political scenarios will be the prime task of the first International Conference on Gender Equality (ICGE) 2015 that will also aim to forge new perspectives in this area.

Organising the mid-November event at Kovalam is the Gender Park, which functions under the state government’s social justice department, as the first of a series of biennial conferences that will initiate dialogue and function as a “game changer” in the area of gender. UN Women, the UN organisation for gender equality and women’s empowerment, is also a key partner of the conference.

Already, a World Economic Forum study for 2013 reveals that the universal recognition of gender equality, which is the key to sustainable development outcomes, has “directed a dramatic change in the lives of women and children”. According to the study, the gender gap in various sectors is being closed: 96 percent in health outcomes, 94 per cent in educational attainment, 60 percent in economic participation and 21 percent in political empowerment.

Gender Park has invited papers and poster submissions for the international conference, themed ‘Gender, Governance and Inclusion’, which looks forward to identifying priority areas for future focus and action in the area. The papers, which must be empirically grounded, are expected to reflect the theme while focussing on work, citizenship, health, masculinities, education, globalisation and social security, and the media.

The last date for submission of abstracts is August 30. Selected papers must be submitted in full by September 15. The best of these will be considered for a high-quality publication.

Poster submissions in English, are invited from scholars and gender practitioners, and must include a 500-word abstract, and a mandatory draft of the final poster. The submitted materials must be in PDF format with embedded fonts. The final date for poster submission is also September 15.

Authors, preferably the main author, must be present in front of their poster at the scheduled times. The posters will be on display throughout the duration of the symposium.

For formatting guidelines for poster submissions and other details, please check www.icge.in

Registrations for attending the conference are now open. Paper presenters and the poster presenters are required to register for the conference for presenting their work.
