Biennale Music: ‘MappilaPattukal’capture the Ramadan spirit at General Hospital

Kochi, June 21: ‘MapillaPattukal’ rendered by singers ShefeekPerumbavoor andShabeer Kochihit all the right notes in the month of Ramadansetting the tone for the latest ‘Arts and Medicine’ musical programme held at the Government General Hospitalhere on Wednesday.


The 175th editionof the weekly showorganised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation drew a fair crowd of bystanders, patients and medical staffers as the singers teamed up with the orchestra for an hour-long musical fiesta weaving together a string of familiar contemporary melodies and evergreen numbers from the golden eras.


The programme opened with ‘SundaramamPerunnal’ by Shefeek, denoting the beauty of Ramadan.Together, he and Shabeer, a B A music student at Maharajas College, Ernakulam, crooned over a dozen songs concluding the show with the song, ‘EzhamBeharinte’.


Shefeek’s rendition the of all-time favourite, ‘SamkrithaPamagari’,originally sung by K J Yesudasdrew generous applause from the audience.


An enthusiastic vocalist, Shefeekis a regular presence in music programmes on popular television channels including kairali-‘Patturumal’, Jaihind-‘Meharuba’and on ‘WE” Kairali.


Shabeerhas successfully tried his hands at music direction and also lent his voicein the musical album ‘Eh Snehatheerathu’ by actor and Playback singer VineethSreenivasan.


Shri. Jose K Mani, MP, was a guest at the programme today.


The all-Wednesday ‘Arts and Medicine’ is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services) aiming to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
